The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) is a labor organization representing about 1.9 million workers in the US and Canada, including healthcare workers, public employees, and other jobs. The SEIU Commitee On Political Education is the second largest company/entity donor to democratic candidates, having given $1.8 million. However, the bulk of that ($1.6 million) was given to one candidate -- Democratic Gubernatorial primary candidate and President of the union in Iowa, Cathy Glasson. This PAC is a Federal/Out of State PAC that is registered with the Federal Elections Commission (FEC) as well as the Iowa Campaign and Ethics Disclosure Board (IECDB). Because they are under FEC jurisdiction, contributions to SEIU are reported there. An OpenSecrets summary of donors to SEIU shows that the organization is primarily funded by a large amount of small-dollar individual donors. They received only 53 contributions greater than $200, with the biggest contribution being $700.

Glasson's campaign raised $2.3 million total, and most of those contributions were from the $1.8 million described above as well as SEIU locals. Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement also chipped in $17,000 directly to her campaign and $87,173.38 in independent expenditures on her behalf. 8.5% of her contributions were in individual contributions greater than $200 with her largest individual contribution being $130,000. 2.3% of her funds came from independent expenditures less than $200.

Although SEIU has a federal lobbying presence, particularly with respect to raising the minimum wage and the fight for $15, they do not have any lobbyists at the Iowa Capitol.
